Geo-Services

Alarm.com Places allow customers to be more connected to their home. With Alarm.com Places, customers can automate home settings and initiate additional notifications based on the location of their iPhone or Android phone relative to their home, office, or any other Geo-Fence they specify. To configure Alarm.com Places, the customer should follow the following steps using the Customer Website and Customer app.

Note: Geo-Device management can only be done with a customer's login. Geo-Device management cannot be done through Login with Access.

Adding a Geo-Device

To configure Alarm.com Places, the customer needs to enable Location Services on one or more of their phones. To enable Location Services, the customer must use the Customer app.

To enable Location Services using the Customer app:

1. Log into the Customer app.

2. Tap .

3. Tap App Settings.

4. Tap Location Services.

5. Tap the Location Services toggle switch to enable it.

6. If asked, tap Turn On to turn on Location Services.

7. Location Services is now enabled for the device and appears as a Geo-Device on the Customer Website.

Create a Geo-Fence

Once Geo-Devices are set up, a Geo-Fence is created. A Geo-Fence is a virtual geographic boundary used for Alarm.com Places. Geo-Fences can be created and edited using the Customer Website or Customer app.

 

To create a Geo-Fence using the Customer Website:

 

  1. Log into the Customer Website.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Places.
  4. In Manage Places, click Add a Fence.
  5. The center of the fence defaults to the system's installation address. To move the fence location, perform either of the following:
    1. Click and drag the location marker on the map.
    2. Enter a specific address in the Move fence location to field and click.
  6. In the FENCE name field, enter a name for the Geo-Fence
  7. To adjust the radius, either click and drag the Geo-Fence anchors on the map overlay, or enter the desired radius in the Geo-Fence Radius field (in miles).
  8. Click Save.

Note: The minimum Geo-Fence radius is 1 mile (1.6 kilometers), and the maximum is 100 miles (160 kilometers). If the account is in Canada, the minimum radius is 3 kilometers and the maximum is 150 kilometers.

To create a Geo-Fence using the Customer app:

  1. Log into the Customer app.
  2. Tap the menu icon (3 horizontal lines)
  3. Tap Places.
  4. Tap + .
  5. The center of the fence defaults to the system's installation address. To move the fence location, perform either of the following:
    1. Tap and drag the map to adjust the location of the marker.
    2. Enter a specific address.
  6. To adjust the radius, either pinch the Geo-Fence, enter the desired radius in the Adjust Radius field (in miles), or tap +  or - to adjust the distance.
  7. In the Name field, enter a name for the Geo-Fence.
  8. Tap SAVE

Note: The minimum Geo-Fence radius is 1 mile (1.6 kilometers), and the maximum is 100 miles (160 kilometers). If the account is in Canada, the minimum radius is 3 kilometers and the maximum is 150 kilometers.

Edit a Geo-Fence

To edit a Geo-Fence using the Customer Website:

  1. Log into the Customer Website.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Places.
  4. In Manage Places, click the desired Geo-Fence to edit.

  5. To move the fence location, perform either of the following:
    1. Click and drag the location marker on the map.

    2. Enter a specific address in the Move fence location to field and click the arrow

  6. In the Fence Name field, enter a name for the Geo-Fence.

  7. To adjust the radius, either click and drag the Geo-Fence anchors on the map overlay, or enter the desired radius in the Geo-Fence Radius field (in miles). 

  8. Click Save

To edit a Geo-Fence using the customer app

  1. Log into the Customer app.
  2. Tap the menu icon (3 horizontal lines) .
  3. Tap Places.
  4. In Places, tap the desired Geo-Fence to edit.
  5. Tap Edit Place.
  6. To move the fence location, perform either of the following:
    1. Tap and drag the map to adjust the location of the marker.
    2. Enter a specific address.
  7. To adjust the radius, either pinch the Geo-Fence, enter the desired radius in the Adjust Radius field (in miles), or tap +  or -  to adjust the distance.
  8. In the Name field, enter a name for the Geo-Fence.

    1. Note: The default Geo-Fence cannot be renamed or deleted.

  9. Click Save

Delete a Geo-Fence

Note: The default Geo-Fence cannot be renamed or deleted.

  1. Log into the Customer Website.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Places.
  4. In Manage Places, click the name of the Geo-Fence to be deleted.
  5. Click the trash can icon .
  6. Click Ok when prompted to confirm that you want to delete the Geo-Fence.

To delete a Geo-Fence using the Customer app:

Note: The default Geo-Fence cannot be renamed or deleted.

  1. Log into the Customer app.
  2. Tap the menu icon (3 horizontal lines) .
  3. Tap Places.
  4. In Places, tap the desired Geo-Fence.
  5. Tap Edit Place.
  6. Tap Delete Place.
  7. Tap Delete Place when prompted to confirm that you want to delete the Geo-Fence.

Once Geo-Devices are enabled, they can be configured as desired Alarm.com Places rules or notifications. Some examples of rules are arming reminders, thermostat override, and pausing video recording rules.

Important: If multiple Geo-Devices are selected, it will require the last of these devices to enter or exit the Geo-Fence before a rule is triggered or notification is sent.

To view rules and reminders available to a specific customer's account:

  1. Log into the Customer Website.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Places.
  4. In Set up Rules & Reminders, it lists notification reminders and rules available for the customer's account to create.
